Topic Introduction:
Since the old days, working and laboring not only bring sufficient income to sustain one’s material life but also generate a sense of achievement to fulfill one’s spiritual life. However, the premise of such enjoyment is “decent work”. The concept of decent work is very broad, including fair payment, safe working condition, physical and metal dignity, non-discrimination when considered for promotion, reasonable working time, and more. Decent work therefore plays a crucial role in eradicating poverty and reaching more inclusive economic growth. In the “2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development”, a historic milestone of humanity progression, the eighth Sustainable Development Goal specifically states out the importance of productive employment and decent work and also sets forth clear indicators to measure and review the Goal. The responsibility of achieving decent work for all does not solely lie with private sectors, it also requires the public governments and social groups to promote, regulate, and cooperate with employers in order to truly leave no one behind.

Brian Chuang, Chair of ECOSOC
Greeting to you all! My name is Brian. I’m currently in my second year of study at National Taiwan University majoring in International Business, and being one of the Officers of NTUMUN this year. I have participated in Model United Nations since high school, including one time of HSMUN, and one time of MUNACT before. Through this amazing journey, there’s definitely no doubt that MUN had significant impacts on my life. I used to be a rather quiet person and tend to confine myself in my own comfort zone. However, after the enlightenment of MUN, I have reborn. From MUN, I not only have the chance to dive into various international issues, but also own the privilege to learn how to present myself, hoe to listening carefully to others, and how to negotiate, cooperate, and finally reach consensus with them. Most importantly, it taught me to always stay curious and care about the world we live in every day. This year in HSMUN, I have the honor to serve as the Chair of the Economic and Social Council and your Director of Academics. I hope that I can present to you the same inspiration and such enthusiastic atmosphere I’ve experienced from Model UN, and you are all welcome to join us. See you in July! |
Anita Su, Assistant Chair of ECOSOC Welcome, delegates, to HSMUN 2018! I'm Anita Su, currently a student studying for Bachelor of Science at the University of Melbourne. Model United Nations was a big part of my high school life, with a lot of valuable experience gained and lifelong friends made. I'm really excited to be back into the world of Model UN this year, and I look forward to working with you all. I think participating in MUN is a great way for high school students to improve their English speaking and diplomatic skills such as communication, persuasion, and negotiation, as well as to meet other people and building connections. I hope you guys could enjoy this event, and MUN in general, with all your hearts, and learn as much as you can from it! Sean Hsu, Assistant Chair of ECOSOC
Hi, delegates. I am Sean Hsu, currently a sophomore majoring Economics at National Taiwan University. I will be chairing for the Economic and Social Council in this year's HSMUN, and it is my greatest honor to be a member of the Department of Academics of HSMUN 2018. Personally, this is just my first time chairing and MUN has been an incredible journey for me. For those who are first-time MUNers, I believe that you are afraid to express your thoughts and wonder how the system works. You just need to try as hard as you can and HSMUN will be a memorable experience for you to start your own MUN journey! |
